    FUNERAL OF MR. AVIS.-The funeral of Mr Robert Avis, second son of the late Mr and Mrs George Avis, of Chevington, whose death was reported in our last issues, took place at the parish church on Thursday. The immediate mourners were: Mr W.Avis and Mr H.Avis (brothers), Mrs J.A.Shaw, Bury St Edmunds (sister), Mrs A.Avis, Rickinghall (sister-in-law), Mr J.A.Shaw (brother-in-law), Mrs Willsher, Mrs F.Bumpstead, and Miss Peggy Shaw (nieces). Mr Alfred Avis and Mr Leonard Avis (nephews). (There are serveral other names mentioned but not here transcribed). Floral tributes were as follows: In loving memory, from Bill, Georgina and family at "Pear Tree." In loving memory from Harry, Jenny, Annie, Hat and Kit. In loving memory of dear unclue, from Jennie, Fred and Daphne. In loving memory, from Jack and Peggy. In loving memory, from aunt Charlotte and Charlie. In loving memory of Bob, from Fred, aunt Alice and Norah (friend). With many happy memories, from your girl next door, Phyllis. In kind remembrance, from Mr and Mrs Gooch.
    The following sisters were prevented by indisposition from attending. Mrs Abraham# (Westerham), Miss Annie Avis (London), and Mrs* Hewitt (Cambridge).
    The coffin, of polished oak, bore the inscription: "Robert Avis, died January 22nd, 1939, aged 71 years."
