Dinmore Letter. Obituary. Quite a gloom was cast ever the district when it became known that Mr. Sid. Nunn had passed away. He was a victim of the recent epidemic. Deceased was the seventh son of the late Mr. and Mrs David Nunn. The Nunn family are amongst the oldest families of Dinmore, and are well known throughout the whole of West Moreton. Deceased was married to the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E Hawkins, also of Dinmore, and had resided here the whole of his life. During his younger days he was a great cricket enthusiast, having played with the Whitwood Club. For many years deceased worked as a miner at the New Chum Collery. Some 12 months ago it became necessary for him to leave the mine owing to sickness, and he found employment at Messrs. Bognuda, Hudson and Co's pottery where he remained until the protracted dry spell made it necessary for the works to close. Deceased again worked as the New Chum pit up to the time he was taken ill. Deceased was only 46 years of age. He leaves a heartbroken wife and a family of 13, three of whom are married. The deepest sympathy is felt for the sorrowing family who have so suddenly been bereaved of the guardian of the home. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon. A service was conducted by the Rev. A. Tempest, who also conducted the service at the graveside.

    Notes:

By the time he was 18, David Nunn had four convictions for poaching, according to the Bury Prison Register dated 23 Sep 1846.
The fourth conviction earned him a fine of 20 shillings, costs 13 shillings. It's not clear if the 20 shillings included the costs but either way it was a substantial fine for "an offence against the Game Laws at Chevington".
We can surmise that he may have been poaching to feed himself and other family members but whatever the truth, it was against the law and he was caught. The record describes David as 5ft 5ins, pale complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, long visage, of good health with clean clothes. He could not read or write.
Four years later, it was reported in the Bury and Norwich Post on 16 April 1851, p2, in a list of convictions at Chevington that ... David Nunn and Wm. Death, offence against game laws at Chevington; 2 months.
So, he spent time in jail for his misdeamours as well.

1877 State Electoral roll (Ref no) 196 lists David Nunn land ownership in Ipswich Police District of Electoral District of Bundamba
