    Notes:

Not on 1881 family census but there is an Annie Nunn born Chevington about 1865 staying with an Alfred Nunn in Surrey and described as his niece. However, this Alfred Nunn is Anne's second cousin. An anomaly? Or just an easier way to describe the family connection? Perhaps the family just referred to him as an uncle even though they knew he was a distant cousin. All speculation of course. She is again found with the same family in 1901 after in 1891 being in service elsewhere. According to obit, she was living in London up until the time of her passing.
Almost certainly the birth mother of George Nunn who is described as a grandson of Anne Philippa Nunn's parents Josiah and Elizabeth.

Bury Free Press 11 February 1933, page 13:
FUNERAL OF MRS. J.NUNN. - Regret was felt and expressed on all sides throughout the village and district on Saturday, when the sad news became known that the death had taken place the previous evening of Mrs. J.Nunn, of Rectory Cottage, following a comparatively short illness of influenza and pneumonia. Of a thoughtful and kindly disposition, she had many friends, and most events in the village found in her a ready supporter. She had been a member of the Mothers' Union for many years. Mrs. Nunn, who was the sixth daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Nunn, of Chevington, was predeceased by her husband several years ago, and leaves a family of one daughter and two sons, the younger son being well known as a football player for Bury Town. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at the parish church. The cortege was preceded by members of the Mothers' Union. The service was feelingly conducted by the Rector (the Rev. E.Gaunt) and the hymn, "Abide with me," was sung. The family mourners were: Miss Phyllis Nunn (daughter). Mr Fred Nunn and Mr Bob Nunn (brothers), Mrs. Handley, Mrs. (Sarah) Plummer, Mrs. (Georgina) Pettitt, Mrs. (Rose) Leslie and Mrs. (Alice) Cox (sisters), Mr. C.Nunn, Mr E.Rolfe and Mr.A.Rolfe (nephews), Miss M.Rolfe (niece), Mr A.Pettitt (brother-in-law), Mrs. G. Nunn, Miss K.Nunn, and Mrs H.Newman (sisters-in-law), Mrs A.Pitt (cousin), Mrs. Sangster, Miss E.Sangster, Miss F.Cocksedge, Miss N.Burling, Mrs. A. Newman, Mr W.Underwood and Mrs. Spurling. Two brothers were unavoidably absent. The respect in which the late Mrs. Nunn was held was evidenced by the number attending the service; these included, in addition to members of the Mothers' Union, Mrs. W.Blake, Miss Stanford (Bury St Edmund's), Mrs. J.Clarke, Mrs. C.Clarke, Mrs T.Clarke and Mrs Cockley (Rede), Miss B.Orriss (Whepstead), Mrs. Grimwood (Whepstead), Mrs.G.Copping, Miss Brinkley (Chevington) and others. The coffin bore brass furniture and a breastplate inscribed: "Julia Nunn, died 3rd February, 1933, aged 60 years." The large number of choice floral tributes bore the following inscriptions: With all our love and gratefullness for the care which has been bestowed upon us; our dear mother; Phyllis, Fred and Bob. Thingoe Petty Sessions. Chevington carrier's self-wounding.
On condition that his relatives took care of him a charge of attempted suicide on June 8th was dismissed in respect of a Chevington carrier names George Nunn (38), who appeared at the Thingoe Petty Sessions at the Shire Hall, Bury St. Edmund's, on Wednesday, before Major F.W.Duff (chairman), the Mayor of Bury (Ald J.Ridley Hooper), Major H.F.B.Archer, Mr. R.J.Burrell, Mr T.Bower, Mr. R.H.Lucas and Col. Parry Crooke.
Charles Nunn, agricultural labourer, Chevington, and uncle of the defendant, said that George Nunn was living with him on the 8th June. Witness went to work as usual, leaving his nephew apparently all right. On returning home shortly after 6p.m. defendant shouted to him, "Don't come upstairs; I have made a mess. Go for Martin Cross." Witness complied, and Cross returned to the house with him and preceded him upstairs. Cross told witness to go for the policeman and to take his nephew to hospital. Witness did not see his nephew, as he rushed for the police.
Accused had been much depressed of late and could not sleep, rest or eat. He had a motor, and witness thought he was a good deal worried about it. He had lived with witness for the last six years, and had a bad illness four years ago from which he
did not seem to recover. A sister of witness who had kept the house left about a month ago to get married, and this also had worried the nephew.
Martin Cross, stockman, living opposite Nunn's house, deposed to being called by the last witness shortly after 6 p.m. on June 8th. He went to Nunn's house, and on going upstairs found George Nunn lying on the bed with his throat cut. Witness
asking him what he had done, and he said. "I couldn't help it." A razor was lying in a pool of blood. Witness had known accused for 16 years as a hard-working man of good character, and he had detected no change in him of late. He was a carrier and carter, and owned a motor lorry. Nunn had a white cloth round his neck, and was pressing it to his throat when witness went in. He watched the man til the police came. Nunn told witness that he had been to Bury for a load of coal, but came home without it because he could not wait. He also said that "the motor had been losing money."
P.-c. Amos Stiff (Chevington) stated that Charles Nunn came to his station and asked him to go to his house. He made a statement, and witness accompanied him to his house and found George Nunn lying on a bed and hold some blood-stained linen round his neck. On the floor were several handkerchiefs and pieces of linen, and a razor stained with blood. On examination witness found that Nunn had a wound in his throat, which had stopped bleeding. Nunn said, "I am sorry to give you all this
trouble. Mr. Stiff: I must have been a fool, I wish I had not done it." Witness took the man to the West Suffolk Hospital. Witness understood that Nunn had been worried a good deal on account of the marriage of his sister, who had been keeping house for 17 years, and also on account of bad trade and loss on his motor.
Dr. Winifred Peacey, house surgeon, West Suffolk General Hospital, said she saw Nunn at the hospital at 10.30 on the 8th June. There was a cut on the front of his throat, which witness had stitched up. Witness thought it did not endanger Nunn's life - By Mr. Lucas: It was a superficial wound. The witness added that while in hospital Nunn had been very quiet, but otherwise normal.
The chairman, after a brief retirement of the Magistrates, asked if any relative of Nunn was prepared to look after him.
And aunt and uncle expressed their willingness to take charge of Nunn, who was accordingly discharged and handed over to their care.

Passing of Mr. "Bob" Nunn. Former Bury Town Footballer
It was with sincere regret that his many friends learned on Saturday morning that Robert James ("Bob") Nunn, of Bunters Road, Wickhambrook, had passed away. He died peacefully in his sleep. Youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs James Nunn, of Chedburgh, he had been in failing health for some time. During a long illness, patiently borne, he showed a cheerful spirit and he was bright to the very last.
Aged 32, he was immensely popular, for he was a fine sportsman. For some years he played football for the Bury Town Club-a back of considerable skill: all regretted that an unfortunate motor-cycle accident ended his playing career with the side. He had also played for the Chedburgh Club, of which he was captain, and the odl Brooke's XI. in the Bury Thursday League. He played cricket for Whepstead and Wickhambrook (being treasurer of this club), and was a prominet batsman and a more than useful bowler. He was a very keen gardener, and exhibited and won many prizes at the Wickhambrook Horticultural Show.
Hed was employed for over 12 years by Mr. J.Brooke, of Clopton Hall, helping to plant some of the first fruit trees on the estate, and later becoming a salesman and milk roundsman. Finally he filled the position of gardener, where his work was a source of admiration by all.
"Bob" has a fine type of British manhood, a sportsman with the best qualities, and his death at an early age is a real loss to the district. He leaves a widow, with whom much sympathy is expressed to her in her great loss.
    THE FUNERAL
Amid signs of regret and sympathy, the funeral took place on Tuesday at Chedburgh Church, which Mr. Nunn had attended regularly as a boy, and had sung in the choir for many years. He lived at Chedburgh all his life up to the time he married, when he settled at Wickhambrook seven years ago.
The immediate mourners were: Mrs. R.Nunn (widow), Miss P.Nunn (sister), Mr F.*Nunn (brother), Mr and Mrs. G.Hardley (uncle and aunt), Mr John Nunn, Stowmarket (uncle), Mr G.Nunn (uncle), Mrs A.Pettit (aunt), Mr. A.Rolfe and Mrs T.Rolfe (cousins), Mrs Borley (mother-in-law), Mr and Mrs J.Borley (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), and others.
*Unless my research is incorrect, his only brother was Josiah so this is possibly a typo or there is some other explanation.
Also, the uncles mentioned G. (should it be C for Charles?) and John would be his mother's brothers (her maiden name was Nunn as well).

Gladys' son, Graeme was killed while playing with other boys on a railway line. It is only a short walk from where the family lived at Nethercourt Avenue to the railway line. See https://goo.gl/maps/wC2MiynvJGbqV4YLA.

    The People, Sunday 24 October 1948, p.1
Their new game was with death
Death struck suddenly at a group of twelve laughing children playing in a railway cutting at Hall-lane, Hendon, London, last night.
They had discovered a fine new game, "jump the sleeper", and were joking and tumbling on the lines when the express from Bradford to St Pancras crashed into them at sixty miles an hour.
Some of the children managed to jump clear; others were not so fortunate.
Two were killed; thirteen-years-old Graham Mottershead, of North Finchley, and another boy, not yet identified, aged between eight and then.
Two others, both from North Finchley, were injured, thirteen-years-old Michael Whant, who sustained a fracture in the right arm, and is detained at Redhill Hospital, Edgeware, and David Harrington (thirteen) sent home after treatment for shock.
David Harrington told the police that the boys were putting pennies on the line when the slow train approached from one direction and the express from the other.
"I had the presence of mind to stand perfectly still between the two tracks as the trains passed," he said.
The driver of the express said last night: "I saw two boys jumping on the sleepers, and one standing on the line. I applied my brakes, but it was too late.
"I stopped the train at the first signal-box to inform them of the accident and to summon aid."
First on the scene was the Hendon stationmaster. He dashed to the cutting in a light engine, and was quickly followed by police, ambulances and the staffs of Mill Hill and Hendon stations.
Hall-lane residents were already rendering what aid they could.
They had learned of the accident when a boy, crying and laughing hysterically, staggered down the embankment and cried out, "two boys - my pals - smashed up on the line..."
"We are always warning children to stay away from the cutting, a railway official said.

    Dundee Courier Friday 29 October 1948, p1.
Engine ran down boys at play
Verdicts of accident death were returned at the inquest at Hendon yesterday on two boys who were killed by an express on Saturday.
They were Graeme Howard Mottershead (13), of Nether Court Avenue, North Finchley, and Graham Rookley (9), of Woodcote Avenue, Mill Hill.
They were two of a party of boys who had climbed an embankment on to the railway track.
Gordon Halsey (11), said one of the two boys was standing on the fast line when the express came along.
He was watching a halfpenny he had put on the slow line. The slow train was going by at the time.
John Harland (9), said the goods train was going past when the express was coming. One boy was looking at the fast line for a halfpenny. Three others jumped. He jumped out of the way.
Henry Twitchell, driver of the express, said that he was travelling at 65 miles an hour at least.
He saw boys 60 to 80 yards away. By the time the whistle sounded the engine was practically on them. He applied the brakes, but it was useless.
Asked why he could not see the boys earlier, Twitchell said there was a curve in the line.
Police Inspector S.Stewart said boys had made holes in the fence practically every week.
They got telephone message that boys were trespassing on the line about the spot.
Some went engine-spotting to take the numbers, and names of engines.
