    Not with family on 1901 census, but is on 1911 census. Moved to the USA where she was a nurse at Ellis Hospital, New York and by 1940 was the assistant superintendent. Did not marry. A newspaper report in 1955 about a Ellis Hospital reunion describes her as Miss Duncan.

    Following social security entry fits given her birth was registered first quarter 1887 in England, and her birthdate of 17 Nov 1886 is confirmed from school records in England.

    Miss Gertrude Duncan
    Saratoga Springs-Miss Gertrude Duncan, 79, of 45 Greenfield Ave, died Friday in Saratoga Hospital following a long illness. Formerly of Schenectady, she was a registered nurse and assistant director of Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, for more than 32 years until her retirement in 1953. Miss Duncan was a communicant of St George's Espiscopal Church.
    She is survived by a brother, Herbert Duncan of Burnt Hills, and several nieces and nephews.
    The office for the burial of the dead and a memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at noon today by the Rev. Darwin Kirby Jr., rector, at St George's Espiscopal Church, Schenectady.

    At Stonehaven the fifth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty two, in presence of john Guthrie Smith Esquire Advocate, Sheriff of Aberdeen Kincardine and Bailiff Compeared John Silver, residing at Crossleys, Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, and gave in the inventory of the personal estate of the deceased Alexander Silver and oath thereon underwritten desiring that the same might be inserted and registered in the Sheriff Court Books of Kincardineshire in the Sheriffdom of Aberdeen Kincardine and Banff. Appeared John Silver residing at Crossleys, Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Executor of the deceased Alexander Silver, farmer, Crossleys, Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, who being solemnly sworn and examined depones, that the said Alexander Silver died at Crossleys aforesaid domiciled at Crossleys upon the fourteenth day of April eighteen hundred and eighty two ? and the deponent has entered upon the possession and management of his personal or moveable estate as executor dative quo of the next of kin to the said Alexander Silver. That the deponent knows of no testamentary settlement or other writing left by the deceased relative to the disposal of his personal estate or effects, or any part thereof. That the foregoing inventory signed by the deponent and the said Sheriff Clerk Depute as relative hereto is a full and complete inventory of the personal estate and effects of the said deceased Alexander Silver wheresoever situated, and belonging or due to him beneficially at the time of his death, in so far as the same has come to the deponent?s knowledge. That the said deceased was due and owing at the time of his death to persons resident in the United Kingdom, the debts enumerated in the foregoing schedule amount to one hundred and fifty eight pounds seven shillings and fourpence. That the nett value at this date of the said personal estate and effects situated in Scotland, including the proceeds accrued thereon to this date, and after deducting the amount of the said debts and funeral expenses, is eleven hundred pounds sterling and does not exceed twelve hundred pounds sterling.     I Personal Property. 1. Cash in the house nil. 2. Value of body clothes and other effects belonging to the deceased 2 pounds 2 shillings. 3. That the deponed has entered upon the possession and management of the deceased's estate as executor nominated by her along with John Silver, farmer, Harvieston aforesaid and William Falconer, farmer, Newtonleys in the Parish of Dunnottar and county aforesaid in a settlement executed by her, upon the sixth day of May eighteen hundred and nine three which is now exhibited and signed by the deponent and the said Justice of the Peace of this date as relative hereto that the deponent does not know of any testamentary settlement or writing relative to the disposal of the deceased's personal estate or effects or any part thereof other than the said settlement. That the foregoing inventory, signed by the deponent and the said Justice of the Peace as relative hereto, is a full and complete inventory of the personal estate and effects of the said deceased Isabella Falconer of Silver wheresoever situated and belonging or due to her beneficiary at the time of her death, in as far as the same has come to the deponent's knowledge. That the deponent does not know of any money or property belong to the deceased secured by Scottish bonds or other instruments excluding executors that the said deceased had no heritable estate in this country is so far as known to the deponent. That the value at this date of the said personal estate and effect situated in Scotland including the proceeds accrued thereon down to this date is three hundred pounds and does not exceed three hundred and fifty pounds sterling. That confirmation of the said personal estate is required in favour of the deponent and the said John Silver and William Falconer. All which is truth as the deponent shall answer to God.

    Second, to my son James Silver presently in Australia and his heirs the sum of twenty pounds sterling and in addition hereto I will him or if he dies before me I wish his heirs to be allowed to retain as a further legacy if not repaid to me the sum of fifty pounds sterling which he received in loan form me by the hands of my foresaid sons John Silver and Alexander Silver; Third, to my daughter Helen Silver or Duncan her heirs the sum of twenty pounds sterling; fourth to my sister Elspet Falconer residing at Newtonleys aforesaid the sum of ten pounds sterling, fifth, to my brother Alexander Falconer residing at Newtonleys aforesaid the sum of five pounds sterling; sixth, to my grand daughter Isabella Margaret Duncan the sum of five pounds sterling; seventh to my grand-daughter Hannah Watt Duncan the sum of five pound sterling; eight, to Elspet Bell residing at Newtonleys aforesaid the sum of five pounds sterling; ninth to George Milne residing at Sawmill, Deeside parish of Durris the sum of five pounds sterling

    Our Mother died here this morning at One o'clock. The funeral will take place on Wednesday first, the 24th inst., at Eleven o'clock forenoon to the Old Churchyard of Maryculter when the favour of your company is requested. We are , Yours respectfully, John and Alexander Silver. Harvieston, Kinneff. 20th May, 1893. It is expected that the Funeral will arrive at Maryculter about two o'clock and friends may join on the way.

    Aberdeen Journal 23 July 1856, page 1:
    Farm to let. The farm of Crossley, in the parish of Fetteresso, and county of Kincardine, presently possessed by John Silver, is to be let on a lease of Nineteen years from Martinmas next.
    It consists of about 70 Acres of arable ground, and 73 of pasture, the greater portion of which is improveable.
    The farm is distant from Aberdeen nine miles, eight from Stonehaven and four from Portlethen Station on the Aberdeen Railway.
    The boundaries will be pointed out by Wm. Coutts, ground officer, Maryculter, and the conditions of letting and other particulars may be learned on application to Alex Duthiek, advocate, Aberdeen. The present tentant is not a condidate. 21st July, 1856.
    NOTE: His son Alexander and grandchildren John and Alex Silver were at Crossley thereafter.

    19th October 1865 inventory of the personal estate of John Silver and testament executed by him. At Stonehaven the nineteenth day of October in the year of one thousand eight hundred and sixty five.

    In presence of Alexander Burns Shand, esquire, Advocate Commissary of the Commissariat of Kincardineshire, Compearer Charles Graham Monro, Writer, in Stonehaven as Procurator and gave in the inventory of the personal estate of the deceased John Silver and oath thereon underwritten, desiring that the same might be inserted and registered in the Commissary Court Books of said shire, along with a testament executed by the said deceased, which the said Commissary found reasonable and ordained the same to be done accordingly, and of which inventory the tenor follow viz. Inventory of the personal estate wheresoever situated of John Silver residing at Burnside of Maryculter, county of Kincardine, who died at Burnside on the seventh day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty five.

    The above is the inventory of the personal estate of John Silver referred to by me in the annexed affidavit emitted by one of this date.

Chivas, JP, Aberdeen, the eighteenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and sixty five years in presence of Alexander Chivas, one of Her Majesty's justices of the peace for the county of Aberdeen compeared Alexander Silver at Burnside of Maryculter who being solemnly sworn and examined depones. That John Silver residing at Burnside of Maryculter the deponent's father died at Burnside on the seventh day of October current and the deponent has entered upon the possession and management of the deceased's estate as sole executor nominated to him in and by his last will and testament dated the first day of July one thousand eight hundred and sixty four now exhibited and signed by the deponent and the said justice of peace as relative hereto.

    That the deponent does not know of any testamentory settlement or writing relative to the disposal of the deceased's personal estate and effects or any part thereof other than that now exhibited.

    That the foregoing inventory signed by the deponent and the said justice of peace as relative hereto is a full and complete inventory of the personal estate and effects of the said deceased John Silver wheresoever situated and belonging or due to him beneficially at the time of his death in so far as the same has come to the deponents' knowledge.

    That the deponent does not know of any money or property belong to the deceased liable to the duty imposed by the Acts 23rd Victoria chapter 15 and 23rd and 24th Victoria chapter 80.

    That the value of this date of the said personal estate and effects situated in the United Kingdom including the proceeds accrued thereon down to this date is one thousand six hundred pounds and under two thousand pounds sterling. That confirmation of the said personal estate is required in favour of the deponent. All which is truth as the deponent shall answer to God.

    I John Silver residing at Burnside of Maryculter being resolved to settle my affairs as to prevent all disputes thereanent after my decease do make my last will and testament as follows viz. I nominate and appoint Alexander Silver at Burnside of Maryculter my son to be my sole executor and intromitter with my whole moveable and personal estate and effects of every kind with all the powers competent to an executor by law but in trust always for the uses, ends and purpose underwritten.

    I approve him to make payment of all my just and lawful debts funeral charges and expenses and of the expenses of executing this trust and as to the whole free remainder and residue I leave and bequeath one just and equal half thereof to the said Alexander Silver which he will retain in his own hands and as to the other half thereof I appoint my said executor to pay and divide the same equally between Jean Silver my daughter spouse of David Bisset at Eastside of Maryculter and Helen Silver my daughter spouse of Alexander Esson at Greens of Crynach share and share alike and that as soon after my decease as my said executor can conveniently arrange to do so and in case of the death of either of my said daughters before receiving her share such share shall fall and be paid to her children equally among them, and this I declare to be my last will and testament.
